We’re going to CA, baby! …California love….

Anyone who guessed CALIFORNIA is totally right!  (some of you already knew though)… Those of you who didn’t know, I’m glad it’s out in the open now!

I am SO excited to have our ♥Honeymoon Re-do!♥

Is it really this great in person?

We are flying into San Fransciso in the beginning of August! ….But staying in Santa Rosa.

**How far is that? How bad is the drive on a Tuesday?** I’m hoping it isn’t as bad as NY but it has been about two years since I drove in that, so I’m nervous all over again.

Why California?

Beautiful, romantic scenery! 🙂

I want to see the vineyards and walk up and maybe pick a grape or two. I just want to take it all in. Enjoy the beauty and new experience!

49ers things for the husband!

I would love for him to stand on the 50 yard line and experience something he has dreamed about since he was a child. I want to be there to see it. …  **I hear they don’t do tours!???! Can you go in anyways on an unorganized visit and just walk around or something? Anyone know?

Wine anyone?

I want to drink California wine…. while in California!

I want to learn all there is to learn about wine. Okay, not everything. But at least learn more than I know…

Sit on the beach? Yes, please.

I want to sit on the beach with my husband... Get a slight glow before school starts and wear a bikini on our honeymoon re-do! (side note: I need to work out more…)

Eat good food!

I am bracing myself for the moment that I pass a Trader Joe’s for the first time in two years! I might WILL have to stop, hopefully not harming any other automobile, pedestrian, or animal on the direct path to TJ’s! …I want to eat some good GREAT food! Experiencing some awesome restaurants and local favorites are what I’m really after. I have a feeling the husband will be embarrassed when I go up to someone who looks local and asks them where we should eat. 😉 …Truly, he is excited to go with me!

Question: was your guess right?

Have you ever been to California?

……What should we do when we are there?!?!

  1. Sounds like a great ReDo — Cali is awesome – San Fran is so fun (and hilly) – The Levi’s store there is awesome! Napa is amazing — i love Napa!!! If you are going to napa email me and I have a super cool winey you can book ahead of time (so cool) — xoxox

  2. Ahhh I’m so jealous! I LOVE CA! I’ve been twice, but never to Northern CA; Laguna Beach & LA. Both trips were amazing!!! My fiance & I wanted to go to wine country but it got to expensive for us. 😦

Can’t wait to read some recaps of the trip! Enjoy!!!

  3. OMG! We went to san fran, napa, and monteray bay this past september and it was the BEST vacation! I have goosebumps for you!! EEK! Ok, when in Napa…go to a little town called yountsville. They have a really cute strip of wineries that you can walk around and the bouchon bakery…yum! Go to Jessups! It’s a little place but they give you the most generous tasting! We found a coupon in the booklet that our hotel had for a complimentary tasting. Taste their chocolate dessert wine…you won’t be sorry!! Monteray bay…MUST go to and take the 17 mile drive! BEAUTIFUL HOMES and GORGEOUS VIEWS! Also, drive thru Palo Alto…BEAUTIFUL!

In San Fran: MUST see The ROCK!, Take a trolley ride, walk up and down the streets (the houses are SO neat), Bike the golden gate bridge into a little town called salsalito and eat there…it’s adorable!, we stayed at the holiday inn downtown and it was the PERFECT location! Within walking distance of Ghiradelli square and a lot of awesome little restaurants! Plus, they are pretty resonably priced for their location and they give a GREAT FREE breakfast buffet! We also went to a Giants game (really fun)!! MUST get a ghiradelli sundae!

There’s just SO much! Totally jealous! ha

  4. I’ve only been to CA when I was 2…I wish I could go with you?! Will I fit in your suitcase?? I promise I’ll find my own place to stay 🙂

That sounds like an excellent honeymoon! I have no advice about what to see or where to go, but I’m totally jealous that you can just head out there without a plan!!!

  5. so jealous right now my family live in san diego and i love it, go and enjoy yourself!!!

  6. I have actually NEVER been to California. I am so jealous!

  7. Yay, you will love it here!! I actually just moved to Santa Rosa last month!

Traffic is bad going through San Francisco to get to highway 101 and the last few miles towards Santa Rosa can get slow because of construction – it’s hit or miss! 🙂

Definitely consider stopping in Sausalito on your way to Santa Rosa (cute town, good restaurants, amazing views of SF) and the Marin Headlands (great views + hiking!).

I know I gave you some wine country ideas, but here are some of my fav Santa Rosa discoveries… Bodega Bay, Russian River Brewery, Rosso’s (Italian), La Rosa (cheap, americanized mexican, but for some reason I love it?), Flying Goat Coffee and Sweet Tooth (candy + fro yo).

    Have so much fun!!! 🙂

  8. Omigosh how exciting!! So fun that you will be coming to the city by the bay 🙂 You will love it here and hopefully it will treat you to some nice weather! I’d love to help with suggestions! What kind of things are you looking to do in SF? Or what kind of restaurants are you interested in? Wine tasting in Sonoma or Napa is really fun and I’m sure you will love that too! I’m so excited for you!!

    • I want to really go to the stadium for the husband but I’m not sure if we can get in? Can we?…. I want to do the sight seeing thing; ride the trolley, see the bridge, drink wine, and eat good food (not too far out of the box, for the husband’s sake… something with a wide variety)
      Geeze! I’m pumped!!!

  9. ittybitsofbalance

I went to California for the first time in October and it was great 🙂 Make sure you go to San Francisco and check out the bread factory! They make bread in the shape of turtles

  10. Woohoo! SO jealous! I’ve only been to CA once and it was San Diego but I LOVED it and am already dying to go back. Can’t wait to see the pictures you take while there!

  11. Last time I was in California (San Fran area) I hiked along the coast and saw SEALS in a bay. It was awesome. I also ate really, really, really good snapper.

  12. People have been throwing out great suggestions… wanted to add Healdsburg and St. Helena have great wine tasting spots!

One commenter suggested Monterey and after living there for a year, I’d say double check the weather forecast before you make the drive down. If it’s good, also see nearby cities Carmel (hike in Big Sur, perhaps) and Pacific Grove. If it’s not so nice, hang out on the other side of the bay – in Santa Cruz!

    • GREAT advice and suggestions, you have all been SO nice with this! …I think I’ll only get to do a few tastings so I want to get a good one, the husband’s patience may run thin if I make him do wine tasting alllll day long. (even though I would *LOVE* it!)

  13. Oooh have a wonderful vacation 🙂

  14. I’ve only been to Cali once to visit family in San Diego… but, I recommend checking out the SD Zoo if you’re an animal lover like I am!!

  15. I’m so jealous you’re going to have SO much fun!! San Francisco is amazing (but a little chilly so bring layers!)

  16. I’m a teacher and I’m trying to soak up the last of summer before having to go back! My hubby and I went to SanFran and our favorite part of the trip was Sausalito!! You HAVE to go! We took a taxi over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and have lunch outside overlooking the water and we loved it!!

  17. Um this is amazing! You’re going to have a blast!

You need to rent bikes and bike across the GG Bridge to Sausalito (it’s a town on the other side that is seriously reminiscent of Italy and adorable), wine-taste to your hearts content (plus a lot of restaurants in Napa have a zero corkage fee if you bring wine!), hit the Ferry Building (and/or Famer’s Market there if it’s a Tuesday!), Blue Bottle Coffee (Also at the FB), Alcatraz, Clam Chowder in a breadbowl from Fisherman’s Wharf, the Sea Lions, a GIANTS Game is a must-see!

Happy to help out with any recommendations… you’ll love it here! 🙂

  18. Exciting! I just moved away from CA yesterday lol But you will love it! San Francisco is so much fun and Santa Rosa is beautiful! Stop at a Whole Foods while you’re in Santa Rosa too! I forget a lot about what I’ve done there, so I’m not much help on things to do. 😦 My friend lives up there right now and knows of all the good places to eat, so if I get a chance to talk to her I’ll let you know!

  20. Oh my god this trip sounds like my dream trip! 🙂 I’ve been to LA but never San Fran or Napa and I’m dying to go!! Hope you both have an amazing time! 🙂

  21. Hey girl! I just moved to Pasadena, CA and it’s pretty cool. 🙂 You MUST do a limo tour of wineries in Napa. Breathtaking. It was one of my fave days ever, hands down. We visited maybe 8 wineries and it was just gorgeous! I’m a wino so it was right up my alley. 🙂
