Twins? No, just close sisters…. and a birthday gift!

Happy Birthday!

You’ll never believe it- *TODAY* is my sister’s birthday! There were some that thought we were twins. Nope, there are two years + 364 days between us. Yesterday was my birthday and today is my sister’s birthday.  Happy Birthday to the most amazing sister God could have ever given me!

When growing up, I *hated* having a birthday the day before my sister. There are tons of reasons I hated this as a kid: we couldn’t celebrate our birthday’s together because our parents ususally got us some of the same things, my birthday was never ‘mine’, I could never fully enjoy the birthday because we were always prepping for hers, people would forget my birthday but tell me to wish my sister a happy birthday on my birthday… just to name a few.

Now, I would give anything to be able to celebrate our birthday’s together. There are a ton of reasons why I long for this as an adult: I want to hug my best friend and wish her a happy birthday, I want to share birthday cake with my best friend, I want to talk my best friend’s ear off, I want to laugh so hard I cry, I want to celebrate life with my best friend that makes life oh so much sweeter.

Together forever.

My sister is the most amazing woman I know!  (okay, so it’s a tie between her and my mom but that’s a tough battle to win. You should meet them.) She is my best friend, the world’s best sister, my  sense of sanity when life seems to crumble, the best support system in the world, the only person I feel comfortable talking to on the phone, the person that I can always rely on to be honest with me, the person that I can share clothes with (even though my fashion sense is better 😉 ), and my other half. I know, our husbands should be our other halves- and they are. But seriously, we were made for each other long before boys were ever a thought. God gave us eachother as a gift- that is why our birthdays are days right next to each other. Happy Birthday, Sister! I love you to the moon and back! I’ll be here for you till the end and even beyond that.

♥I thank my God every time I remember you. Philippians 1:3♥

A Birthday Gift!

I was surprised while teaching with a knock on the door. Flowers were delivered on my birthday– with enough candy for my kids to help me celebrate my birthday! How sweet, husband!

Seriously, these were stinking beautiful and they smelled AMAZING! My enritre room smelled of fresh flowers for the past two days, I was *super* lucky that none of my kiddos this year were allergic to them! Tonight, I got to bring them home- so our house smells great now too!

I bet the weekend will be great, now I’m off to make some celebratory cake batter ice cream!

Cake batter 'ice cream' to celebrate being 25!

QUESTION: What do you do to celebrate your birthday?

  1. Ah that is too crazy Julie! My sister and I are only a few days apart, too! Her bday is January 31 & mine is February 5! And my mom & aunt were born a day apart just like you & your sister… weird!

  2. Awww! I love that! Sisters are the best! And, that bouquet from your husband is AMAZING! How sweet! I take birthday’s very seriously! Chase usually plans a surprise weekend trip, which I love!

  3. Happy Birthday Girl! Your flowers are gorgeous. I love reading about sibling friendship. It makes me so sad when I hear people talk about how they don’t get along with their sisters or brothers. My little brother is definitely my other half.

  4. Awww how sweet!! Happy birthday to you and your sister!! 😀

  5. Happy birthday to you and your sister!! So funny that they are right next to each other. 🙂 Hope you had an amazing day, you deserve it!!

  6. Happy 25 to you! And it sounds like you have such an amazing relationship with your sister!! Sort of makes me jealous I never had a sister 🙂

My mom’s birthday is two days before mine, and for the majority of my life, we celebrated together. I sort of resented it for awhile, but now I see how she sacrificed truly celebrating her day so she could prep and plan for mine when I was younger 🙂

  7. Aww Happy Birthday to you both!! That is so fun your birthdays are so close to each other! I love that you have such a wonderful relationship with her, that’s the way it should be!
    Have a fantastic celebration 🙂

  8. Happy birthday! My sister and I are only 10 months and three weeks apart. So we are the same age for a little bit, I used to hate it when we were younger, cause people used to think we were twins! I wanted recognition for being the older one. Now that I’m 26, I don’t mind it anymore!

  9. How fun to have such close birthdays! Sounds like yours was lovely 🙂
I hated my birthday as a kid – July 5th. None of my friends were ever in town because of the holiday, so I rarely had a party. I love it now – as the hubs can usually get the day off and we can go on a mini-vacation to celebrate. Two years ago we went to Europe and went on a river cruise in Paris. Hands down, best birthday ever. This year was my first day teaching summer school….not as cool, haha.

  10. What a beautiful post! I used to want a sister so badly when I was younger… I’d forgotten how badly til I read your post, which brought it all flooding back! I also love those flowers! 🙂

  11. My sisters and I get mistaken for twins/triplets/quadruplets ALL THE TIME! Good thing I kind of like them! 😉

    Those flowers are beautiful!

  12. This post is absolutely beautiful! 🙂

  13. 1. Happy birthday to you and your sister!
    2. That ice cream looks delicious!
    3. There’s about the same age gap between my sister and myself. We definitely had our ups and downs as kids, but she is one of my very best friends now!
    4. Do you still live in Kansas?

  14. Oh my goodness! No way! I’m a new reader and I thought my sister and I were the only ones! My sister’s birthday is May 31st and mines June 1st! And I used to hate it to…I was laughing at your reasons why! Now I don’t mind it either:) Happy birthday to both you and your sister!

  15. Love the sprinkles on top of your smoothie! So fun and festive 🙂

  16. Love the sprinkles on top of your ice cream! So fun and festive 🙂

  17. Happy Birthday to you and your sister! Pretty amazing that you two where born almost exactly 3 years apart!
Flowers are awesome, what a great husband! 🙂

  18. Hey Julie! Too weird- we have a lot in common- for one, our name (us youthful ones!), and my sister and i have birthdays one day apart in November too- weird coincidence. My birthday is this coming Sunday (the 27th) and my sister is exactly two years and one day (Nov. 28th) younger than me. I can completely relate to your feelings as a child with regards to your birthday- I remember whenever I’d have my friends birthday party my sister would announce to everyone that hers was the next day (haha!) But now I love that we have our birthdays so close, and we always get to see each other to celebrate since our birthdays fall so close to Thanksgiving. Whew that was a long introduction! Happy belated birthday!
